What To Wear to Your Christmas Office Party

It’s getting to that time of year again when office parties are starting to make their way onto our social calendars.  Office parties can be tricky, especially if you’re not used to hanging out with the work crowd outside of the office.  What to wear, when to arrive and how long you should stay, who to hang out with and even how to act – these are all questions that you have to consider while carefully handling the social-professional house of cards that is the office Christmas party.  Luckily for you, not only do we manufacture the finest custom dress shirts that money can buy, but we dish out some pretty heady advice, too!

Should you wear a tailored dress shirt to your office Christmas party?

What To Wear

Let’s start with the easy part: what to wear.  You don’t want to be the guy wearing your favourite comfy jeans and your ‘I love shaved beaver’ t-shirt while the rest of your colleagues are wearing tailored dress shirts, wool suits and silk neck ties.

Prefer a tailored dress shirt over your 'I Love Shaved Beaver' tshirt at your office Christmas party

If the party is being held at a venue, check if they have a dress code and let that dictate what to wear.  If there is no venue or if it’s at the office, see if you can find out what your boss is wearing and use that for guidance.  As a last resort, wear what you’d wear on a first date – in this situation it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.

If you’re looking for some ideas for a sharp looking tailored dress shirt that would be perfect for your office Christmas party, head over to our Look Book or design your own shirt in our shirt configurator.

Office Party Etiquette

Try to get to the party when it starts or shortly thereafter.  Fashionably late is OK, extremely late isn’t.  Also, don’t be in a rush to get out of there – you don’t want to be the guy who shows up late for the party or leaves early.  People will talk and your bosses might take this as a bit of a slight that you’re not really much of a team player.

Once you’re at the party, keep things social and avoid talking about work – this is a chance to get to know more about the people side of the people that you work with.  Even if you see someone that you’ve been meaning to talk to or trying to track down for weeks, don’t bring your work to the party with you.

Don’t Drink Too Much

Ok, we think this is pretty obvious but guys, don’t drink too much at the office party, even if there is an open bar.  Yes, it’s a party and a chance to let your hair down and show your co-workers a different side of you than what they might see at the office, but if you find yourself with your arm around one of your colleague’s shoulders, talking very loudly and very close to their face and laughing a whole lot more than they are, chances are you’ve had a little too much tipple.

The Final Word

Christmas yuletide is fast approaching and we’re looking forward Old Saint Nick making his merry rounds this year.  We don’t claim to be perfect but we’re pretty sure we’ve landed on the ‘nice’ list.  But if you find yourself heading out to your office Christmas party, remember to look the part – possibly by sporting a slick tailored dress shirt and some awesome accessories – don’t show up too late or leave to early, and above all make sure that you don’t drink too much.

Happy holiday, Artvictus men!
